Becoming a Fellow
*
 1. CURRENT ADMISSION CRITERIA
The Zambia Institute of Marketing Act No. 14 of 2003 provides the following criteria for admission to Fellowship:

Section 12 (1) A person may apply to the Council and be admitted as a Fellow if the person—

(a) Is a Member of the Institute and has fulfilled the conditions for such membership;

(b) Has attained an appropriate marketing qualification from a recognised institution;

(c) Holds a business degree acceptable to the Council for such class of membership; or

(d) At the time of making the application of admission as a Fellow, the person---

(i) Has been engaged in marketing practice at a senior level for at least five years;

(ii) Has practiced as a marketing consultant for at least five years and has acquired eminence in the profession;

(iii) Has lectured or taught at a university, college or the Institute for at least five years; or

(iv) Has engaged in research in marketing or related fields for at least five years.
 2. ADDITIONAL ADMISSION CRITERIA
In addition to the provisions in the Act, the Registration Committee came up with additional provisions which were subsequently approved by the Council in accordance with the mandate the Committee enjoys in the Zambia Institute of Marketing Act No. 14 of 2003 of establishing additional minimum requirements for membership to what obtains in the Act of Parliament. Here below are the provisions:
2.1 References

Applicants who would already be Full Members of the Institute, for upgrade to the highest status of Fellow of the Zambia Institute of Marketing shall be required to provide three (3) written references from the under listed eminent personalities clearly authenticating the stated competences and achievements in the field of Marketing by the Applicants for Fellowship Upgrade.
2.1.1 One (1) Fellow of the Zambia Institute of Marketing.

2.1.2 One (1) Eminent Marketing Personality from Industry (Previous/Current Employer of Fellowship Applicant).

2.1.3 One (1) Eminent Marketing Personality from Academia.

2.2 Core Personal Attainments in Marketing Practice

3.2.1 Marketing Practitioners in Commerce and Industry

2.2.1.1 Applicant has significantly generated new product innovations and development in a particular sector of commerce and industry; or

2.2.1.2 Applicant has introduced unique marketing practices in commerce and industry; or

2.2.1.3 Applicant has been engaged in marketing practice at a senior level (Functional Head) for at least seven (7) years in commerce and industry; or

2.2.1.4 Applicant has alternatively practiced as a marketing consultant for at least seven (7) years and has acquired eminence in the profession.

2.2.2 Marketing Practitioners in Academia

2.2.2.1 Applicant has significantly contributed to the body of marketing knowledge through consistent publication of marketing literature and professional texts in marketing for utilisation in marketing education; or

2.2.2.2 Applicant has alternatively consistently engaged in advanced research in marketing or related fields for a period of at least seven (7) years; or

2.2.2.3 Applicant has been engaged in lecturing at University or College for a period of at least seven (7) years.
2.3 Requisite Marketing Qualifications

Applicants for Fellowship who would already be Full Members of the Institute shall hold the under listed relevant and recognised marketing qualifications.
2.3.1 Recognised Diploma in Marketing from a reputable institution approved by the Council; or,

2.3.2 Recognised Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from a reputable institution approved by the Council; or,

2.3.3 Recognised Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree in Marketing from a reputable institution approved by the Council; or,

2.3.4 Recognised Professional Qualification in Marketing from a reputable examining body approved by the Council.
